C4 Director John S. Levin
John S. Levin, Ed.D., is the Bank of America Professor of Education Leadership and director, California Community College Collaborative (C4) at UCR where his expertise is of particular value. Levin's research areas are in:
- Community college governance
- Community college management
- Higher education organization
- Issues affecting nontraditional and low-income students
Levin has examined such issues both in the U.S. and in Canada, where he received his Ed.D. from the University of British Columbia in 1989. He received his master's degree in English literature in 1969 from York University, Toronto and his bachelor's degree in English in 1968 from the University of British Columbia.
The C4, a joint effort between the California Community College System and the University of California, was created in 2005 to improve the quality of instruction at community colleges. The C4's mission is to transform research into means to develop college leadership.
Recently published books include:
- Nontraditional Students and Community Colleges, September 2007 — Examines how well students receive justice from their institutions and as a result of their education.
- Globalizing the Community College, 2002 — Looks at how the traditionally local institution is transforming itself to meet the needs of a globalized economy.
